When I started teaching courses, I began getting more and more questions about the tools I use to create my images. This has ranged from camera and lenses to where I buy my props and tools for controlling natural light in my home-studio. So instead of repeating my answers, I decided to create a resource page.
This page includes all the things listed above and more. I regularly keep it updated as I find new things that work well for me. Please note, many links below are affiliate links which mean I earn a small commission if you choose to order through the link on this page.
I currently shoot with a Canon EOS 5D MarkIV Full Frame Digital SLR Camera for all of my food and product photography. I also use a Sony Alpha a6300 Mirrorless Digital Camera for landscape and food when I’m traveling.
My two favorite lenses for food and product photography currently are the Canon EF 24-105mm f4/L IS II USM lens and the Canon EF 100mm f2.8/L IS USM Macro lens. I use the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM lens for wildlife photography.
I use basic Black Foam Boards and White Foam Boards to create directional light in my images.
I prefer Heavy Duty Spring Clamps to hold up my foam boards. They also work well for hanging up backdrops and sheer curtains to filter light.
I use a Foldable Soft Diffuser Panel, or scrim, most often to filter harsh light. I also like to have a Sheer Curtain Panel around to cover a larger window.
I sometimes use a Reflector Arm Stand to hold my reflector when I’m working with food shots outside such as shots on the grill. I also use this stand as a holder for back drops from time to time. Mine is fairly inexpensive, though. It can’t hold anything too heavy.
